Narrative Structures

Narrative Structure
Linear- is a story which happens in chronological order, from the beginning to the end. This does not include flashbacks. For example high school musical and gravity.
Non-Linear- is a disjointed or a disrupted narrative, this means the film is portrayed out of chronological order. For example pulp fiction
Flashback- is a scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point. For example 12 years a slave.
Realist – is a representation of a real life situation, for example Coronation Street.
Non- Realist- is when there are supernatural events happening and also fantasy, iron man and the hulk.
Open- is a film without the sense of an ending, for example easterners, when one story line finishes however there is always several others continuing.
Closed- is one in which all the questions raised by the narrative are answered, for example 12 years a slave.
