TASK 9

Evaluation
This is an evaluation on my music video which I created with 4 other piers. We had to come up with the aspect and idea of it and create it by scratch. It had to be a well know song and catchy.
To start our music video we had to start with basics. That included the initial idea. We had problems when it came to this because the song we got given (schools out) was not the best song and we only knew the chorus which wasn’t ideal. So we had to come up with a song which we knew all the way through and a song what will be easy to make a video to. Rachel came up with kung Fu fight and we weren’t too sure about it at the start but decided to go along with it as we couldn’t think of anything better. When we decided on the song, we started our mind map which will show all of our different ideas. I found the starting point to the video extremely hard as we didn’t even have a song. However it soon turned around as once we had our final decision on the song we could start with the planning and move forwards.
To plan it we had to do a lot of different tasks to complete. We had to complete a mind map showing our initial ideas; we first started off with initial ideas. The initial ideas are what we wanted to happen in the video and what we wanted the actors to do. We had a lot of silly ideas however we wanted the tasks to be possible so we came up with things such as the actors jumping of thing such as walls and tables. They are objects easy to find and we were sure we could find people will to jump off things. Then we said we obviously needed some karate moves such as the karate chop and different silly positions, to link in with the theme of theme of the song.  We found the initial idea part easy to do however when it came to looking at our mind map we could have added more information to improve our outlook. Next we need to think about who could play the rolls in our video; so we had to expand our thoughts to think of people who would be willing to do it. We made a list; drama students, friends, college friends, a karate class, variety of people walking on the street, teacher and even ourselves. This bit was the most challenging when it came to actually videoing it, we found out that we couldn’t use the karate children in their class as they weren’t over 18 also the drama students at the time of videoing weren’t in lessons or in the college so we couldn’t use them. It was difficult to find people outside of our friendship group so we ended up using friends and college classmates. To improve this we could be more realistic when it comes to choosing actors. We then had to think about locations and props; we had to think realistically so we decided to stay in the college and in Gateshead Newcastle area as it would make it easier for us. For props before putting them down on our final mind map we made sure we were able to get them in on time. We decided on simple things such as kimono and umbrella. This task was easy however if we had a longer time to complete we could have been more adventurous with location and props. For shots before doing our initial ideas we went out and done camera movements and shots as one of our tasks. This gave us an advantage before videoing as it gave us a chance to work with the camera. It was good to use the camera before we videoed because when it came to videoing our final video we will have a rough understanding.
We faced quite a lot of problems through the process of our video; it was about having the group together we never really had a full group it was mostly me and Gemma and it was hard to finalise things when it was just us two so we found that difficult. I wish there was a way to improve this problem however there was nothing we could do as demi and Rachel where ill. Other problems where with the battery packs, when we were going out to film the batteries would run our quickly and we would forget to bring a spare. Next time to improve we will have to bring spares so we will not have that problem. We had a major problem with filming the karate class as we didn’t have the rights.
When it came to videoing the final thing it went without many hitches. We did have to film the bridge scenes on a mobile phone as the camera battery wasn’t charged. However I think we controlled it well by using the phone and by keeping calm however we could have made sure the battery was charged so we wouldn’t have got to that problem in that first place. When it came to doing the risk assessment me and Gemma worked really well as we gave each other tasks for each set. Also it was good as we could use each other’s different skill. However it would have been completed quicker if the two other girls where there but they did help when it came to videoing. We didn’t use a lot of equipment; we used a Panasonic camera and a tripod, also a kimono and a Chinese umbrella. That was it really for equipment, we could have gone more adventurous but we thought it would have turned cheesy. I think working in a team helped with the work load as we could help each other and complete different tasks so we would finish earlier.
When it came to editing it was mostly done by Gemma as you could only use one computer for editing however we did tell her where to put the different things and whether it needs to be speeded up or slowed down. When it came to green screening I decided to volunteer myself to do it. To do this I needed Gary’s assistant as it was difficult. I couldn’t get it perfect as there was green on the umbrella and that cause gaps it in. I found that task challenging but I would like to have the experience to do green screening again. I also did the title parts at the end of the film that was an easy task. I found it easy and to improve it I could have experimented more and change the text type.

The final outcome with the video was at a good standard and entertains the audience. I think it is comical and different I like how there is different scenes to show the different rounds also I like how we challenged ourselves to do green screening. However to improve it we could have tried to perfect the green screening so when it came to the close up of the umbrella we wouldn’t see gaps. Also we could have perfected the fighting scenes to make them look realistic. However I think the final outcome is suitable to what we wanted and entertains people.  The skills I have learnt doing this unit is team working skills; how to work in a strong group and make sure everything is agreed so no arguments take place. Also learnt videoing skills so I can use a video camera and green screen a video.

TASK 7

This is our music video time sheet. This shows you and helps us to know what goes on minute by minute. I really enjoyed doing this and think it really helped us to understand what will be needed to do to complete my video.
